Identifying our Means

Double Happiness LLC is partnering with The Last Supper Festival and SALT artspace to present a discussion on “Identifying Means” on Tuesday, September 22nd, from 6-10pm.

The discussion, on the evening of the autumn equinox, will feature three short talks and then a series of facilitated discussions to help the participants identify the means that are available but might go unnoticed.

A complimentary seasonal stew will be served.

Presentations by:
NSA: "No Standing Anytime" (Christina Kral & Adriana Valdez Young)

NSA are Professional Pop Up Public Interventionistas [PPUPI] making temporary environments for people not to stand anytime (that is, to interact, relax and/or do something fabulous!).

**Starting Question: How do we shift spatial realities to make new means?

Benedikta von Karaisl and Nora Abousteit, co-founders of BurdaStyle.com

BurdaStyle.com is the first established pattern publisher to offer its designs without copyrights.

BurdaStyle is a place for people who sew or would like to learn. Their aim is to bring the traditional craft of sewing to a new generation of fashion designers, sewing hobbyist, DIYers and anyone looking to create and sew something.

**They will discuss the means of: Open Source patterns and the rise of the bottom up fashion industry.

Fluxxlab (Jennifer Broutin & Carmen Trudell)

Fluxxlab is a design firm that focuses on sustainable energy harvesting, specifically in the form of converting small amounts of human energy into electricity.

**Starting Question: A lack of means or an abundance of means can be equally as compelling. How can means or lack of means be manipulated to greatest potential?

Moderators include the presenters plus:
Chinnie Ding, a doctoral candidate in English at Harvard, focusing on 20th-century poetry and intellectual history.

**Starting Question: How might labor -- as individual and collective, manual and mental means -- be more justly valued and more creatively recognized?
